Life Sciences & Chemistry - Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys
The challenges faced by this sector are greater than ever in a fiercely competitive arena where companies need to move fast to take products from promising ideas to market.
Our combined life sciences & chemistry team work collaboratively to help our clients maximise the impact of their IP.
Our life sciences team work across all areas of IP, including patent drafting and prosecution (for UK, EP, PCT, and overseas); freedom to operate and due diligence; portfolio management; opposition and appeal proceedings; SPCs/extensions; Plant Variety Rights and regulatory issues (including orphan drug legislation and data protection), to create and deliver innovative, insightful, high quality, client-focused services that provide real commercial value.
Our experience in contentious matters and our awareness of how to manage and take advantage of the procedural and substantive aspects of the law allows us to devise and present a case in the clients’ best interests, including at first instance and appeal level.
For this reason, the attorneys in our group are sought after by corporations from around the world to take on difficult, commercially important cases.
Our chemistry team has particular technical expertise in oil and petrochemical technologies, catalytic processes, polymers and composite materials, food chemistry, natural food supplements, absorbent articles, hydrogen fuel cells, solid state chemistry, catalysts and holographic sensors.
The team worked as sole European attorney with one of the world's seven "supermajor" oil and gas companies for over ten years and one of South East Asia’s largest oil and gas companies since 2008. These successful partnerships have resulted in the Mathys & Squire team being involved with major projects including bio-chemicals and oil exploration.
Members of the team have also handled cases for one of the world’s leading multinational consumer goods companies relating to chemical engineering, including industrial processes for producing personal care compositions such as shower gels and shampoos.
The team is also actively involved in the area of food technology working for clients who specialise in batter coatings and methods for producing cooked and part-cooked foods, clients with a particular emphasis on microwavable products (containers and food compositions), and those working in salt reduction technologies and flavour improving compositions.
