Tom joined Mathys & Squire in 2019 and works as an Associate in the life sciences team.
Expertise
Tom has experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications, as well as in the provision of freedom to operate opinions mainly for startup biotech companies and universities. He has experience in the area of immunology including in vaccines and antibodies, CRISPR, and stem cells. Before completing his PhD, Tom worked for a small biotech company based in Cardiff and a multinational gene sequencing company based in Cambridge.
Academic
Tom obtained his PhD in cardiovascular sciences from the University of Manchester, focusing on the regulation of inflammation in mesenchymal stromal cells. Tom holds a master of research degree in tissue engineering for regenerative medicine also from the University of Manchester and a BSc in biochemistry from Cardiff University. Before joining Mathys & Squire, Tom was a technical assistant at another intellectual property (IP) firm where he completed his certificate in intellectual property law from Queen Mary University of London.
