Fatema joined Mathys & Squire as a Technical Assistant in the life sciences & chemistry team in 2021, having previously worked as a researcher in the fields of molecular biology, genetics and neuroscience.
Expertise
Fatema’s experience in academia and research has provided her with a broad technical background in the life sciences, ranging from neuroscience and genetics to biochemistry and pharmacology.
Since starting her training at Mathys & Squire, Fatema has gained experience in patent drafting, prosecution and opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office (EPO).
Academic
Fatema holds an integrated master’s degree in neuroscience, for which she was awarded a first class honours from King’s College London. Her master’s research involved using CRISPR genetic engineering to modify a schizophrenia-associated protein. She is also experienced in stem cell culture and molecular cloning.

Fatema is a student member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
