Fatema is an Associate in the life sciences team at Mathys & Squire and is based in the London Office. Fatema has a broad technical background in biotechnology and molecular biology, particularly in the areas of neuroscience, antibodies, immunology and diagnostics.
Expertise
Fatema works with a range of clients including startups, SMEs, universities, and large corporations, and is involved in the drafting and prosecution of both UK and European patent applications, as well as the management of global patent families. Fatema also has extensive experience in opposition and appeal cases at the EPO.
Academic
Fatema holds an integrated master’s degree in neuroscience, for which she was awarded a first class honours from King’s College London. Her master’s research involved using CRISPR genetic engineering to modify a schizophrenia-associated protein. She is also experienced in stem cell culture and molecular cloning.
Fatema has also successfully completed a PGCert in Intellectual Property Law with distinction at Queen Mary, University of London, and holds an Intellectual Property Litigation Certificate.
