Clare joined Mathys & Squire after receiving a first class degree and PhD in genetics from the University of Liverpool. She is an Associate in the firm’s life sciences team, specialising in genetics, circadian rhythms, molecular biology and biotechnology.
Expertise
Clare has experience in the prosecution of European patent applications as well as management of global patent portfolios for clients in the biotechnology field. She has also been involved in drafting patent applications and freedom to operate work.
Her scientific background involves genetics, antibodies, gene editing, cloning, and sequencing technologies, circadian rhythms, molecular biology, and biotechnology. In addition, Clare completed a placement at a major pharmaceutical corporation, working in their in-house patent department. There she developed a practical approach to intellectual property (IP).
Academic
Clare received a first class degree and PhD in genetics at the University of Liverpool. Her doctoral research surrounded laminopathy-musculoskeletal disorders, circadian rhythms and mechano-biology, and focused on uncovering a novel mechanism of skeletal muscle circadian clock regulation by the nuclear lamina.
She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.
