Alícia joined Mathys & Squire in 2024 as a Technical Assistant in the IT & engineering team. She is experienced in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK, Europe and elsewhere, including the US, China, Japan and India. She is also experienced in carrying out patent searching, including for pre-filing and Freedom to Operate purposes, and in producing infringement and validity opinions.
Expertise
Prior to joining Mathys & Squire, from 2016 onwards Alícia worked in the in-house intellectual property (IP) department of a major UK-based industrial inkjet printhead company, gaining substantial experience of how IP is captured, protected and commercialised from within an innovative technology-driven organisation. This included meeting with research and development (R&D) engineers to identify their inventions and produce patent applications stemming from their work, coordinating patent prosecution around the world, and carrying out infringement clearance exercises. She has handled numerous cases in relation to printhead electronics and control systems, and also has experience in working with trade marks and trade secrets.
Academic
Alícia studied electronics and telecommunications engineering at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. Her thesis involved proposing a system for improved 4G (LTE-A) telecommunications. During her course, she studied a broad range of fields including analogue and digital electronics, as well as wired and wireless communication systems.
