We have a dedicated and specialised team of non-fee earning functions offering unrivalled support to our patent and trade mark attorneys. We have a dedicated trainer, who alongside others both in and outside of the firm, runs regular training sessions to support your learning and career progression within the firm.
Records – Described as the engine room of the firm, our records team is responsible for the creation, maintenance and processing of patents, trade marks, designs and oppositions. The team has specialist IP knowledge which is supported by access to the ITMA Trade Mark Administrators’ Certificate and CIPA Administrators’ Certificate which is funded by Mathys & Squire.
Paralegals – Our patent and trade mark paralegals have an in-depth knowledge of IP laws covering not only UK and European jurisdictions, but also the rest of the world, notably the USA, Korea and Japan. The role offers plenty of client contact, liaising in areas such as patent and design renewal deadlines, as well as processing instructions, paying renewal fees and instructing foreign attorneys.
Secretarial – Our team of secretaries is a vital and much valued part of the firm. Offering varied and stimulating work in areas such as prosecution, litigation and drafting in the UK and Europe, the team works closely with our attorneys to develop their knowledge and expertise in the world of patents, in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Accounts – Lead by the head of finance, the accounts team consists of a credit controller, two accounts supervisors and an assistant, who are dedicated to supporting the firm across all financial aspects, whether this be specialist invoicing arrangements for our clients, providing financial data to the board or assisting with day-to-day enquiries.
Facilities – Our facilities team is a fundamental part of keeping Mathys & Squire’s offices and people safe, healthy and happy. Ensuring a pleasant environment, functioning equipment and excellent quality of service is paramount to the function of the firm and its employees.
Human resources – Our HR department is well established and has three members of staff who handle recruitment, retention, reward and training matters. The team aims to ensure that our benefits, processes and policies reflect our status as a leading professional services firm reputation as an employer of choice.
Marketing & business development – The team is always on hand to advise and guide staff with research, identifying new opportunities and assisting with pitches and tenders. They encourage fee earning staff at all levels to get involved in BD, whether through writing articles for the press and our website, attending and hosting events, networking or developing client relationships.
IT – Our IT department reflects the specialist knowledge of the IP world and includes experts in SQL development, product management, business information reporting as well as first line support. The team provides the exceptional IT support needed in a modern and progressive firm and ensures that all our staff, whether in our London, regional or overseas offices, or those working from home, have consistent and reliable access.
