Sam is a Managing Associate in our life sciences team, with extensive experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the fields of molecular biology and biotechnology. She has an honours degree in biochemistry and a PhD in molecular virology from Imperial College London.

Sam has extensive experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK, Europe and worldwide in the fields of molecular biology and biotechnology, with a particular focus on antibody-based therapeutics, including antibody-toxin fusion proteins; nucleic acid-based diagnostics; vaccines; stem cell and regenerative technologies and biomarkers for screening and diagnosis. She also has experience in handing offensive and defensive opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO), and is responsible for managing a large global patent portfolio for a US-based biopharmaceutical company, including providing validity and freedom to operate advice.

Prior to joining the patent profession, Sam worked as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry developing therapeutic antibodies for use in the treatment of cancer and immune system disorders.

Sam has a first class honours degree in biochemistry and a PhD in molecular virology from Imperial College London. Her PhD focused on the identification of host factors involved in the Hepatitis C virus replication cycle through the use of microarray expression profiling and siRNA silencing techniques. Sam’s PhD research was the subject of several international presentations and was published in the Journal of Virology.

Sam holds a certificate in Intellectual Property from the University of London where she gained a distinction, and was awarded the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) prize for excellence in patents. She also holds a certificate in Intellectual Property Litigation.

Sam is a member of the European Patent Institute (EPI) and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA).
