Oliver is a Managing Associate in Mathys & Squire’s IT & engineering team. Oliver works with a wide range of clients including large corporations and SMEs as well as universities, startups and individual inventors.
Expertise
Oliver works across a range of technologies in the fields of physics, engineering and software.
Oliver’s recent work relates to LED lighting, hydrogen and battery technologies, civil and aerospace engineering, sports technologies, and a variety of computer implemented (software) inventions ranging from AI and machine learning to fintech.
He has experience primarily in drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications, and in managing international patent portfolios. Oliver also has experience in wider strategic and contentious matters, having advised clients in respect of disputes regarding the infringement and validity of patents and registered designs, as well as patent licensing, IP due diligence, and freedom to operate.
Academic
Oliver graduated from the University of Warwick with a first class master’s degree in physics. His degree covered a broad range of topics including mechanics, geophysics, medical physics, optoelectronics, lasers, and semiconductor devices. During his final year research project, Oliver investigated the effect of substitutional doping on the crystal structure and intrinsic magnetic properties of rare earth transition metal magnets.
Oliver also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary University of London.
