Chloe is a UK and European patent attorney who works with a wide variety of technologies in the chemical and engineering sectors. Her background in the interface between materials and chemistry supports her interest and expertise in medical device technologies. She has substantial experience in EPO opposition and appeal proceedings. Chloe was recognised as a key lawyer in the 2020 edition of The Legal 500.
Expertise
Chloe has substantial experience in the prosecution and opposition/defence of patents relating to medical devices, encompassing products such as orthopaedic implants, bioactive glasses, sutures, hemostatic materials, adhesives and coatings. Chloe is a strong advocate and has successfully represented her clients at numerous EPO opposition and appeal proceedings.
Chloe’s practice also encompasses providing validity and infringement opinions and advising clients on freedom to operate. She has been involved in UK litigation proceedings in cases regarding highly accurate long-read DNA sequencing technology (Pacific Biosciences of California v Oxford Nanopore) and antimicrobial coated sutures (Ethicon v Meril).

Academic
Chloe graduated from the University of Cambridge, where she was achieved a first class in Natural Sciences and was awarded the Goldsmiths’ Prize for the best performance in Part III Materials Science. She completed a PhD in Biomaterials Science, researching biomaterials for heart tissue engineering. Her strong academic background means that she is well placed to advise on technical subject matter including biomaterials, industrial and consumer chemistry, renewable energy, oil and gas extraction, ceramic materials, corrosion protection, polymer processing, batteries, laundry technology, contact lenses, and carbon-based materials.

Chloe is a member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) and of the European Patent Institute (EPI). She is a member of the IP Inclusive Women in IP focus group and an active member of the Chiefs in Intellectual Property (ChIPs) and Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) Women in IP Global Network groups, including speaking at the MIP Women in Leadership MIP Forum in 2020.
