Partner Hazel Ford will be presenting a webinar on the Unitary Patent system and the UPC on the 7th of April alongside Oxon IP’s Leythem Wall. The webinar is hosted by BARBRI, a global education platform.
Titled “EU Unitary Patent System and UPC: Recent Decisions and Developments,” the webinar will discuss the approach of the UPC to patentability and enforcement.
The Unitary Patent was introduced in 2023 and allows applicants to gain rights to multiple EU countries in one application, reducing costs and logistical labour. However, applicants must also consider the risk of patents being revoked across multiple jurisdictions in a single action when litigation is handled by the central Unified Patent Court.
The webinar will offer vital insights on strategic considerations for US applicants with European portfolios, covering recent decisions at the UPC, such as on the assessment of inventive step and the long arm of the UPC.
Hazel Ford is an authorised representative at the UPC and is qualified as a UK Higher Courts Patent Litigator, with extensive experience in global patent drafting and prosecution, as well as EPO opposition and appeal proceedings.
