ELRIG is committed to fostering a drug discovery community which is accessible to all, enabling people to learn and connect on a global scale, and helping promote innovation. Their Drug Discovery event is a major life sciences conference which will explore key topics such as next-generation biophysics, multiomics, AI in compound discovery, bioconjugation in oncology and CRISPR/genome engineering.

Martin MacLean has over 25 years of experience in IP with his principal practice areas covering drafting and global prosecution, defence and opposition, freedom to operate and strategic advice. Coming from a strong biotech background, he specialises in technologies such as protein therapeutics, antibodies, vaccines, expression systems, diagnostic assays and ‘green’ agrochemicals. He has conducted well over 100 hearings at the EPO with a success rate of approximately 90%, and also has extensive high value A&M (£100m+) due diligence experience. The Chambers & Partners UK guide has ranked him as a Band 1 practitioner for the last 15 years and is also frequently recommended in Legal 500, IAM Strategy 300 and IAM Patent 1000.
Lionel Newton has considerable patent drafting and global prosecution experience, as well as experience in opposition proceedings before the EPO, appeal proceedings before the High Court and the Court of Appeal in the UK, and advising on freedom to operate and validity matters. He works on a wide variety of technical subjects, with a particular focus on the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry and life sciences, and for a wide range of clients, including academic institutions, startups and overseas clients.
