William is a Chartered UK Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in the IT & engineering team at Mathys & Squire. He joined the firm in 2019 after graduating with a first class master’s degree in engineering science.
Expertise
William’s work covers the engineering, physics and IT sectors, with particular focus on medical devices, software, artificial intelligence (AI) and mechanical engineering inventions. William has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe and internationally for a wide variety of clients and technologies alike. He also has experience opposing patents before the European Patent Office, as well as advising clients on wider IP strategy including providing competitor portfolio analysis and infringement and validity opinions.
Academic
William holds an undergraduate master’s degree in engineering science (MEng) from the University of Oxford. His degree provided him with a strong technical background in the major engineering disciplines, including mechanical engineering, materials, electronics, control theory, aerodynamics, biomedical engineering, and software. His master’s research project developed deep learning image analysis techniques to create an assistive clinical tool for predicting invasive breast cancer from histological images.
