Edd joined Mathys & Squire in 2015 having worked for two years in another large UK-based patent attorney firm. He has experience drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications, and managing international portfolios, particularly in the quantum computing, software, networking, medical devices, and green energy fields.
Expertise
Edd has extensive experience in drafting technologically complex applications and prosecuting them to grant. He has developed deep skills in drafting in the quantum computing, software, and mathematical fields, and prosecuting them to grant. At the forefront of his approach is not just getting to grips with the technology, but also understanding the needs of his clients to ensure robust and useful protection. He also has extensive experience with electronic devices, particularly from a materials perspective, including semiconductor devices and applied superconductivity. In addition, he also has experience in applied cryogenics; medical devices; software and networking; quantum information and computation systems; automotive systems including electric vehicles; marine mooring systems; and green energy production.
Academic
Edd holds an MPhys degree from the University of Leeds including a dissertation in quantum information, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, studying the thermal properties of cuprate superconductors.

Edd is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA) and a full member of the European Patent Institute (EPI).
Recent work
Edd has recently been assisting in the drafting and prosecution of applications for a startup company in the quantum computing space. In addition, he has been involved in advising green-energy startups on all aspects of their intellectual property (IP) portfolios. Much of his work over the years has involved working with large and small clients to advise on all aspect of IP protection, and to maximise portfolio value.
