Annabel joined the profession in 1988 and handles patents in the engineering field, specialising in particular in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, material science and structural mechanics.
Expertise
Annabel has considerable experience representing and advising clients of all sizes in relation to drafting and prosecution, and managing patent portfolios. She is experienced in litigation and has successfully defended a high profile opposition at the European Patent Office relating to aircraft, and been involved in corresponding infringement and validity proceedings at the UK High Court. Annabel’s experience is mainly in private practice, where she was formally an equity Partner in a central London practice. She also spent several years in the patent department of Thorn EMI working with sound and image technology and gaining experience of management and commercialisation of IP within a major industrial concern. Annabel’s technical expertise is in the field of engineering, specialising in mechanical and structural engineering, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. She has a particular interest in the field of automotive and aerospace technology. Her clients have included a large manufacturer of defence equipment, major manufacturers of vehicles and diesel engines, and a company developing electric vehicle technology.
Academic
Annabel has an honours degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College London and is a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.
Memberships & organisations
She is an elected member of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA), and has an interest in the future direction of the profession, having chaired the working party on future policy.
