On Thursday 14 August, Partners Alexander Robinson and Andrew White ran an IP workshop in collaboration with Deep Science Ventures.

About Deep Science Ventures

Deep Science Ventures is a venture creator focusing on research- and capital-intense ventures which will have a real, long-term impact on our quality of life and the environment we live in. They marry deep scientific expertise and strong industry partnerships with talented founders to build ventures which flourish.

So far, the initiative has launched 50 companies, with 37 still in development, and attracted $160m in funding. Their portfolio is valued at $500m. Five key areas, which they believe have the most potential to transform our world, define their work:

The attendees included staff and “founders-in-residence” from Deep Science Ventures, as well as students in their Venture Science Doctorate programme. This PhD programme equips students with the skills necessary to achieve scalable and high-impact innovation. It enables them to go beyond their scientific knowledge and tap true industry potential. The staff, founders and students work across a diverse range of technical fields, spanning AI, engineering, MedTech, pharma and Biotech.

The workshop

Alexander Robinson and Andrew White led a workshop titled “Introduction to IP for Founders and Startups,” revealing the IP knowledge vital for starting a venture, especially in IP-rich industries with lengthy R&D processes like deep technology, engineering and pharmaceuticals. They covered all the essentials, including what can be patented, how to align IP strategy with business strategy, the role of IP in securing investment for early-stage companies, and managing ownership of IP in collaborations and partnerships.

We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Deep Science Ventures for the first time and hope to work with them again in the future, to join their effort in fostering a harmonious relationship between humanity and the planet through science.
