We are delighted with the news that UK technology investment has hit a record \u00a329.4 billion this year<\/a> \u2013 more than double last year\u2019s numbers (just \u00a311.5bn in 2020) and almost four times as much as 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is also significantly more than Germany (\u00a313.5bn) or France (\u00a38.6bn), representing more than a third of all investment in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 29 companies reaching \u2018unicorn\u2019 status \u2013 i.e. worth more than US$1bn or \u00a3750m \u2013 that\u2019s roughly one unicorn a fortnight (more than any other year previously), and represents approximately 25% of all UK unicorns (115). Many of this year\u2019s unicorns are from the fin-tech<\/a> sector, including Zepz (previously WorldRemit) and Marshmallow, the UK\u2019s first black-owned unicorns. Health tech, AI<\/a>, data solutions, and food and drink are also well represented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These new unicorns join the likes of Just Eat, Zoopla and BenevolentAI (some of the UK\u2019s first unicorns), Deliveroo, and Cazoo (yes, from that<\/em> advert). We can\u2019t wait to see how these unicorns integrate into our daily lives, and what new unicorns arrive in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
