Norbert has worked in IP for almost 15 years. He holds degrees in Engineering and has spent several years working in industry for telecommunications technology companies, before joining Mathys & Squire’s IT & engineering team. Norbert is also a native Hungarian speaker.
Norbert has an honours degree in integrated engineering from Nottingham Trent University and an MSc from the Technical University of Budapest (Hungary). He also holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Széchenyi István College in Hungary. During his studies, he completed a traineeship in Finland where he gained experience in power plant design and automation.
Norbert works in the field of IT and engineering, with particular emphasis on telecommunications and software technologies. He is a part-qualified European Patent Attorney and has experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK and in Europe, in fields ranging from computer implemented inventions to telecommunications, digital television, image sensors and mechanical and medical devices. Norbert has substantial experience working as an in-house intellectual property professional. He started his IP work in 2000 as a patent engineer at a major telecommunication company’s R&D unit, providing IP support to a staff of 600+ employees. He worked on a broad range of telecommunication products and technologies with main emphasis on network infrastructure and standard related patents (e.g. 3GPP, 3GPP2, IETF). In 2006, Norbert joined the IP department of a leading navigation and digital mapping company in Amsterdam, where he was appointed Head of Patent Engineering. There he gained valuable experience in portfolio building, licensing and litigation, anti-counterfeiting, and trademarks.
