Philippa joined Mathys & Squire in 2001, qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2005, and became a Partner of the firm in 2010. She studied at Cambridge University, obtaining a 1st class Masters degree in Zoology, and also holds a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from London University.
Philippa works in the fields of molecular biology and biotechnology, and has experience of technologies including vaccines, nucleic acid-based diagnostics and array technologies, cytokine and antibody-based therapeutics, oncolytic virus-based therapeutics, ex vivo organ monitoring and repair, gene therapy, thermostable enzymes, stem cell technologies, and food and beverage processing.
Philippa’s practice areas include drafting and prosecution of global patent families, including freedom-to-operate and strategic advice, for clients ranging from UK government and blue chip biotech companies through to university spin-outs and start-ups. Philippa is also experienced in the conduct of Opposition and Appeal Hearings before the European Patent Office, for clients including ZymoGenetics, Inc., Wellstat Biologics Corp. and Breonics, Inc.
