Peter is the senior partner of Mathys & Squire and leader of the Information Technology & Engineering Group . He has a Masters Degree in Physics from Oxford University and qualified as a Patent Attorney in 1978, winning the Gill Prize from the Chartered Institute.
He specialises in the fields of electronics and computing, and has considerable expertise in protecting both hardware and software. He is particularly familiar with digital signal processing and its application to the television, film, multimedia and printing industries.
In addition to his involvement in European Patent Office Hearings, Peter is skilled in IP litigation, especially patent litigation. He has worked closely with solicitors and counsel in a number of major patent actions, especially in the United Kingdom and the United States, and has successfully managed the defence of several US patent infringement actions against UK companies. He has experience of full trials, appeals, and a variety of alternative dispute resolution procedures.
When advising his clients on the commercial exploitation of intellectual property, Peter is frequently involved not only in the drafting and negotiation of licences and other technology-based agreements, but also in the development of IP strategies, identifying new structures and opportunities for revenue generation. He is proficient in IP due diligence and related aspects of corporate finance.
