Paul has a Masters Degree in Engineering from Cambridge and a PhD in computational fluid dynamics from London University, and has subsequent experience as a practising engineer. He has maintained his broad interests in the mechanical, electrical and software engineering fields, with professional experience over a wide technical spectrum from nuclear physics, fibre optics and semiconductor devices, through automotive engineering, radar and communications technologies, to software and business process inventions.
Paul qualified as a Patent Attorney in 1991. He is also a qualified Patent Agent Litigator, with considerable litigation experience especially in the area of digital television. In addition, Paul is a Registered Trade Mark Agent, and handles a large designs portfolio. He sits on the Software Committee of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents.
Paul has a number of major clients in digital communications/ broadcasting. He has constructed from scratch a number of major patent portfolios for key players in these fields, making a particular speciality of carving out useful patent monopoly in difficult areas. He has also undertaken a number of critical infringement risk assessment assignments over a wide range of technical areas.
In the environmental technology sector, Paul has clients in the areas of wind and distributed energy.
Paul acts for a number of blue chip clients in the financial services sector. He handles a considerable number of inventions in the business process area, and is at the forefront of developing techniques for procuring patent protection for business process inventions.
