Andrew Spurr

Andrew joined Mathys & Squire in 2010 and qualified as a UK Patent Attorney in 2014, and as a European Patent Attorney in 2015. Andrew has experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications, as well as litigation before the Patents County Court.

He has been involved in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK, Europe, and in the US for clients ranging from SMEs to large multinational corporations.  Andrew also has experience of litigation in the UK before the Patents County Court, as well as other contentious matters in the UK and elsewhere. He has also experience of the UK’s ‘Patent Box’ and has assisted UK clients in benefiting from this regime.


Andrew has a master’s degree in physics from Oxford University. His degree covered a broad spectrum of subjects including electronics, semiconductor devices and non-linear dynamics. He specialised in quantum information processing and atmospheric physics in his fourth year. His master’s project involved a self-designed experimental apparatus investigating fluid flow through a venturi tube, aiming to monitor luminescence from cavitation downstream of the constriction.
