John joined Mathys & Squire in 2006 and has a Masters Degree in Chemistry from King's College London, where he won the McGhie prize for Organic Chemistry. He also has a Doctorate from Oxford University for research into the partial reduction of aromatic heterocycles and its application to natural product synthesis. John also holds a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from London University.

He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 2010 and works in the fields of oil and gas technologies and green solvents.
